PAPPU CANT DANCE SAALA REVIEW
This movie is fundamentally flawed. There is a plot, but the premise is weak. Also, the so-called sub-plots don't really add up to the whole picture, making it an exercise in futility. To top it, the actual love story that takes place between Neha Dhupia and Vinay Pathak throws logic out of the window. I, for one, will not believe that a girl, who has come from Kolhapur with stars in her eyes, will settle for a portly nerd. That too when she has just been launched in a music video, which has opened doors to stardom for her.
Moreover, in today's day, which music video works? I mean the last girl who made an impact through a music video was Anupama Varma.
Saurabh Shukla, what were you thinking?Take another example. Both Vinay and Neha are put up in a Sales Tax colony by a broker where only government employees are given flats on rent. This is in Andheri. How come the Managing Committee of the Society does not scrutinize the tenants before they take possession of the flat for '11 months'? With security a big concern today, all Societies have become stringent in their rules in letting the premises on rent. In fact, owners giving their houses on rent have to abide by certain rules and regulations drawn by their respective Societies. Police verification is a must!
Finally, when there is a raid by the department to check the veracity of the tenants, Vinay is not at home, while his neighbor, Neha, is caught and thrown out. She then breaks the lock of Vinay's house and moves in. Just like that!
Saurabh Shukla, what were you thinking? There's also a party where Neha's friends and Vinay's friends meet. No one knows whose party it is, what the occasion is, or who invited whom!
Amidst all these flaws, Neha Dhupia comes out trumps. She brings alive her character Mehak Malavade. Mehak is feisty yet vulnerable. She puts on a tough exterior, but beneath the surface is a soft, vulnerable woman. Neha has worked on her character and has refined her performance over the years. She has learnt to give that pause, effect a body movement, before delivering the next line. Hers is a flawless performance. She is the only reason why PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA will work. The other being that the second release is a dud.
CHECK OUT: Aamir has no issues with PAPPU CAN'T DANCE SAALA
This story could have worked if the casting was on track. Vinay Pathak does not suit the role of a 30-year-old. His character (Vidya) comes from Benaras. He works as a medical representative and has to bear the brunt of his noisy neighbor Mehak who is a back-up dancer in Bollywood looking for her big break. Rajat Kapoor as a choreographer too is a mismatch. He looks more a painter than a dancer!
Just getting friends to be a part of a film is not going to work. Film-making is business and in business there are no friends!
